How to instantly make your brand more memorable

Let’s be honest, your Pinterest brand inspo is probably super cute but is it going to be memorable?

You can have the most amazing offer in the world, or a product you're absolutely confident will change lives, but if people can’t remember your business five minutes after they found it, we’ve got a problem (and no, the answer isn’t picking a new font).

If you’re ready to take a more intentional approach to your brand but don’t know where to start, here’s some strategic, yet easy to implement, ways to make your brand stick in someone’s mind.

Let’s go! 👇

Know your audience (I know, bare with me)

Did you read that and internally groan?

This tip (while boring) is on literally every marketing how-to for a reason. You simply can’t market yourself if you don’t know who you’re marketing to (and we want our brand to be doing the heavy lifting in our marketing, right?)

Say you own a skincare brand and your audience is 20-something girly-pops that can tell you every scandal on every single season of Love Island. Making your brand relatable could look be using pop culture references in your copywriting, or playful packaging that’s Y2K nostalgic.

If your audience is women in their mid 40s who value a morning quick routine without any fuss, being relatable would mean paring back for simplicity, and keeping things minimalist and clinical.

Despite being the exact same product, we have two different branding approaches for two different audiences because they value and relate to very different things.

These details may seem small, but they’re what makes your audience feel seen and understood.

It’s making sure they know you’re the obvious choice and your product/service was made exactly for them.

Not sure what questions you need to answer? Read this blog post that walks you through all the questions you should answer when it comes to your brand. Or download this freebie where I (virtually) walk you through several brand strategy prompts.

Still think that you can skip this step? I swear (on my life) that this strategic approach is going to be more successful than a generic ChatGPT caption and beige Canva template.

Own what makes you so different

Okay, so now that you know who your audience is, we want to determine what makes you so awesome. We’re going to leverage this in your brand strategy to make you stand out against your competitors (in business they call this your ‘secret sauce’ but tbh, I think that sounds really gross so I’m not gonna call anything that).

Storytime: Like most creatives, I’m a pretty deep feeler. The name Kind Design Studio is quite literally me leaning into this trait because it make my brand unique.

Yes, being a “sensitive creative” makes me more emotionally intelligent, crave depth and connection with clients, and detail-oriented in the best way, but leaning into this not only attracts the dream people that I want to work with, it also repels those I’m not so aligned with (because, chances are if you don’t vibe with kindness, we’re not a good match).

Also, infusing these values into my copywriting helps readers form an idea on what working with me looks like and makes me more memorable than a website saying “I’m a designer, hire me” 🦗🦗🦗.

So, start asking what makes you different. What unique perspective or experience do you have. What’s a preconceived ‘weakness’ or industry assumption you can adopt and flip on its head? What have your competitors already adopted and where is there room for you?

Get creative beyond your logo

Now that you have more clarity on your brand strategy, we can start talking about the ✨fun stuff✨ aka design.

One of my favourite ways to make a brand more memorable is going beyond the logo, and creating custom icons, textures, illustrations and patterns  (like this interior designer I made the cutest furniture icons for)

I recently stayed at the Wilde hotel in Edinburg, and the brand application was flawless.

Every detail from pencils, pillowcases, to the hairdryer bag, had a quirky illustration, icon or quote.

This did two things:

  1. As a guest, it was a surprise and delight to uncover all these fun hidden details

  2. It reinforced the brand, without it being weird (if they slapped their logo on everything, it would have felt obnoxious really quickly)

Because every detail was intentional and well designed, I was cheeky and took a wee notepad and some pencils to keep in my purse (don’t even judge me, I know you’ve taken the pens and mini toiletries before). Using these items in public means I’m doing free advertising for them.

aaand if that wasn’t enough, I am now literally writing a whole mini case study, doing free advertising for them.

All because of the quirky illustrations.
