Allow me to kindly introduce myself, I’m Shaylyn.

And we can all agree writing your own intro post is awkward, isn’t it? 🙃

But if there’s one thing I need you to know, it’s that Kind Design Studio is a human-focused design studio with a focus on connecting with people. So let me share a little bit about what makes me human.

  • Like a 10 year old let loose at a birthday party, my creative process involves plenty of sour candy and pop (yes I am Canadian, and Coke Zero - never diet). I’m addicted to carbonation and questionable levels of citric acid and don't really have any intention of giving either up anytime soon. If you love sour keys and skittles, you’re my kind of person.

  • After the pandemic, I wanted to be less chronically online and really leaned into my inner Grandma and started growing my own cut flower and vegetable gardens. I absolutely love working with anyone in floral industries (so if this is you please reach out).

  • I am fit (-ish…see point one) and every year have the intention of running a half marathon but neither my dog (or I) like running more then 5km. But in all seriousness, my Peloton is my one item I’d bring to a deserted island and I credit group fitness to so much of my success (I really do love a corny motivational fitness moment).

Okay, now let’s chat business.

 You’d think my future in design would have been obvious when I was 12, creating PowerPoints and begging my teacher to share them with the class (cringe).

But my career path wasn’t so straight forward. I’ve sold pies (fun), worked in coffee shops (also fun), and spent my fair share of time in the corporate cubicle (not my thing, but love that for you if it is). Miserable answering phone calls every day, I knew deep down I’d thrive in a creative career that also served others. So, I went back to school at 25.

Leaving the stability of a corporate job to take a chance on yourself? I know that feeling. I also know the challenges of starting a business from absolute scratch.

When you work with me, you’re not only getting a designer, you’re getting someone who empathizes with the struggle, understands those terrifying (yet exhilarating) business goals and promises to cheer you on every step of the way.

I know the hustle, and that’s why there’s no place for shame at Kind. This is a space for empowerment, elevation and imagining all the beautiful things that are possible. I also believe kindness and leading with integrity are the most underrated superpowers in business, and if you agree, I think we’ll get along perfectly.

You've built an incredible business you're genuinely proud of, but when it comes to marketing... well, that's where the excitement tends to fade.

You're pretty sure you know what makes you different, but when someone asks about it, you struggle to find the right words. Or, maybe you think it would be easier to solve the DaVinci Code than make a screenshot colour palette work with a template.

Which is probably why "create social media posts," "update website," and "design business cards" keep getting pushed to tomorrow.

That's where I come in.

While you're busy being brilliant at your actual job, I'm getting genuinely excited about researching the history of typefaces for your brand and studying what your competitors are doing so we can position you completely differently.

I dig into your industry, your story, and your goals to create something that doesn't just look beautiful—it works strategically to attract exactly the right people you want to work with.
